(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's lacrosse team played with #6-ranked Gettysburg for the better part of the game on Tuesday, but fell to the Bullets, 13-6.
The Bullets took an early lead, scoring just 1:26 into the contest. They struck again as Marnie Commins added an assist to her goal for a 2-0 lead. That score would hold until the 11:15 mark as Loren Pruitt scored her second of the night.
Hannah Church found the net to make the score 4-0 before junior Taryn Abbassian (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) scored on a free position to put the Devils on the board at the 3:51 mark.
Gettysburg came out strong to start the second half, netting a pair in the first 1:32 to hold a 6-1 advantage. The Devils capitalized on another free position as Sunnie Ko (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) converted at the 26:50 mark to break-up a five-goal run.
The Bullets answered with three straight to make the score, 9-2 with 19:18 remaining in the game. The Red Devils went on a run of their own, scoring the next three goals to cut the deficit to 9-5. First-year Lindsay Edgerley (Germantown, Md./Connelly School of the Holy Child) triggered the run with another free position goal.
Sophomores Linzi Burstein (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) and Clare Manoli (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) tallied unassisted goals to give the Devils new life.
Manoli traded goals with Lindsey Robinson as the Bullets held a 10-6 lead with just 1:48 remaining. Gettysburg took no chances late, scoring three more in the final 1:31 to secure the win.
Ko added four draw controls while senior goaltender Jessie Clark (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) played well, stopping nine shots on the night.
Hannah Church and Pruitt each led Gettysburg (6-1, 3-0) with three goals. Laura McIntyre made eight saves in goal.
The Red Devils slip to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Haverford College on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
