(Chestertown, Md.) – The Dickinson College men's soccer team will have a long ride home from Washington College, but it will be an enjoyable one as they opened Centennial Conference play with a 4-1 road win on Saturday night.
Sophomore Derek Kachadurian (Weston, Mass./Weston) assisted the Devils' first two goals, putting one to the head of senior back Taylor Ferry (Wyndmoor, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) in the eighth minute to put Dickinson on the board early.
Kachadurian connected with classmate Javier Mena (San Salvador, El Salvador/The American School) on a double-assist to a sprinting Chris Shultz (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) to put the Devils in front, 2-0, in the 51st minute.
It was a big night for the sophomore class as Jamie Martin (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) broke through the Washington defense and beat the goaltender one on one to stretch the margin to 3-0, less than three minutes later.
The Shoremen spoiled the shutout, finding the net in the 62nd minute. Matt Wilfong placed a shot in the corner off a pass from Bob Libera.
Senior Ben Gemberling-Johnson (Wyndmoor, Pa./Germantown Friends) tacked on another goal for the Devils, scoring off an assist from sophomore Daniel Gaj (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) with just over 17 minutes remaining.
The Red Devils held a 21-11 advantage in shots while Washington had the edge in corners, 4-3. First-year Reed Milbrath (Dickerson, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) made a pair of saves in the first half before Cody Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) came on to make one save after the break.
The Red Devils improve to 4-1-2 overall and 1-0 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face #2-ranked Messiah College on Tuesday night at 6:00 pm.
