(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College field hockey team played even with visiting Haverford until a late charge in the second half opened the scoring as the 'Fords finished with a 6-2 win.
Junior Mary Hobbs tallied a game-high four goals to lead the way as Haverford improved to 3-1 on the season. Hobbs put the 'Fords on the board in the 21st minute, scoring off an assist from Margaret Selsor.
The Red Devils tied the game as senior Katie Mersky (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) returned to the line-up and tallied the equalizer just three minutes later, finishing a beautiful assist from classmate Claire Mammen (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston).
Junior Tanya Bellingham (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) gave the Devils a 2-1 lead early in the second half, scoring off an assist from Lauren Kelly (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) 27:13 remaining in the contest.
The 'Fords turned the table in a hurry, scoring back-to-back goals in a span of just 1:04 to take a 3-2 lead with 20:51 on the clock. Bridget Gibbons tallied the equalizer before Hobbs broke free for the game-winner. Hobbs struck twice more in the game, sandwiching a pair of goals around a goal by Alyssa Mayo.
Hobbs scored in the 64th minute and Mayo would strike less than two minutes later to put the 'Fords in control of the game.
Sophomore goaltender Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) did all she could in the cage, making 11 saves on the afternoon. Sydney Hyder made 12 saves for Haverford, stopping six shots in each half.
Junior Laura Hitchings (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) turned in a strong performance on defense as well, making a pair of defensive saves in the second half. First-year Caroline Kapustynski (Darien, Conn./Darien) added a defensive save as well.
The Red Devils slip to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Gettysburg College on Wednesday to take on the Bullets at 4:00 pm.
