(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's soccer team knocked-off Swarthmore College, 2-1, on homecoming Saturday. The Garnet, ranked third in the D3soccer.com top 25 national poll, suffered its second loss of the season, slipping to 1-1 in the Centennial Conference.
The Garnet struck first as David Sterngold finished a double-assist from Jake Weiner and Fabian Castro in the 27th minute. The Red Devils wasted little time netting the equalizer as sophomore Daniel Gaj (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) evened the score with an assist from senior P.J. Levinsky (Pottersville, N.J./Delbarton) less than two minutes later.
The teams remained tied through halftime and looked to be headed for overtime. Sophomore Derek Kachadurian (Weston, Mass./Weston) had other ideas, scoring in the 82nd minute off an assist from classmate Javier Mena (San Salvador, El Salvador/The American School).
The Red Devils held on from there in what proved to be a physical battle. 37 fouls were called in the contest with 10 cards being issued on the day.
Junior goaltender Cody Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) made just one save to earn the win. David D'Annunzio made three saves in the nets for Swarthmore.
The Garnet slips to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference. The Red Devils improve to 5-2-2 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial. Dickinson travels to McDaniel College on Wednesday for a 4:30 start.
