(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson College men's soccer team struck twice in a span of just 42 seconds en route to a 4-1 win at McDaniel College one Wednesday afternoon. The Red Devils improved to 6-2-2 overall and remain unbeaten in Centennial Conference play at 3-0.
Sophomore Daniel Gaj (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) struck first for the Red Devils, scoring off a rebounded shot from junior Shepherd Waldenberger (Madison, Va./Madison County) to put the Devils on the board 20 minutes into the contest. Just 42 seconds later senior Ben Gemberling-Johnson (Wyndmoor, Pa./Germantown Friends) converted a penalty kick to stretch the lead to 2-0.
The Devils kept rolling, extending the lead to 3-0 at the break on a goal from senior Bryan Gilmartin (Branchburg, N.J./St. Joseph's) with 12:48 remaining in the first half. Junior Nicolas Tierno (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) recorded the assist, making a nice play to beat the Green Terror defense.
Tierno added the final Red Devil goal of the night 10 minutes into the second half to stretch the margin to 4-0.
Max Rutherford finished a nice through ball from Ruben Vaca to spoil the shutout effort in the 65th minute.
Junior goaltender Cody Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) made three saves in the first half while Christian Hall (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) came on to make a pair of saves after the break.
Zach Nibbelink and Sean Best combined for eight saves in the nets for McDaniel (2-5-1, 0-3 CC).
The Red Devils (6-2-2, 3-0 CC) return home to host Gettysburg College on Saturday. Opening kick-off is set for 1:00 pm at Dickinson Park.
