Dawson Nets Four as Devils Run Past Seahawks 9-2

(Brooklandville, Md) – The Dickinson College women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 9-2 win over St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday.

 

On a windy day at the St. Paul's School for Girls, the Red Devils struck first and rolled to an 8-1 lead at halftime. The teams traded goals after the break for the final of 9-2.

 

First-year Ali Dawson (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) scored right out of the gate, taking the opening draw straight to goal, just 11 seconds into the game. Lauriann Parker answered at the 23:15 mark, scoring off an assist from Cailey Aburn.

 

It was pretty much all Red Devils from that point. Dickinson rattled off seven straight goals to take an 8-1 lead into the break. Dawson scored twice before senior Taryn Abbassian (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) finished an assist from first-year Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day School) for a 4-1 advantage with 10:10 remaining in the half.

 

Dawson found the net again, scoring her fourth of the day at the 9:29 mark. Sophomore Kara Glazer (Towson, Md./Towson) tallied back-to-back goals with the first coming off a pass from Abbassian before netting a free position with 6:08 to play in the half. Senior Kaity Moore (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrew's) closed out the half with a goal the 3:26 mark.

 

O'Brien tallied the Devils' final goal at the 24 minute mark of the second half. Amelia Tenberg slipped one in the net with 16:33 remaining for the final of 9-2.

 

Dawson scored four goals in each of her first two collegiate games to lead the Red Devils, adding three draw controls on the day. Glazer tallied a pair of goals while Abbassian finished with a goal, an assist and four ground balls. Brett Whelan (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) caused three turnovers and controlled three draws.

 

Junior Amanda Morse (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made 11 saves and controlled three GBs. Colleen Simpson stopped 11 shots for the Seahawks as well.

 

The Red Devils improve to 2-0 on the season while St. Mary's slips to 0-2 on the year. The Red Devils travel to Susquehanna University on Tuesday for a 4:00 start.
