(Carlisle, Pa.) – The York College women's lacrosse team turned in an outstanding defensive performance, holding host Dickinson to just three goals in a 16-3 win on Saturday afternoon.

The teams played even in the early going, playing to a 2-2 tie with just under five minutes running off the clock. Kim Wayson struck first for the visitors, but first-year Ali Dawson (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) answered with a pair to put the Devils in front, 2-1, with 20:44 to play in the half.

York responded with seven straight goals to close out the half with a 8-2 advantage. Wayson led the way, scoring three goals and dishing out an assist. Wayson struck again just 2:30 into the second half before back-to-back tallies from Erica Mumford stretched the Spartan lead to 11-2 with 23:40 remaining in the game.

Sophomore Val Hoffman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) capitalized with a free position goal at the 18:37 mark but York would finish the game with a 5-0 run for the final of 16-3.

Wayson led all scorers with five goals and two assists while Mumford added four goals and a pair of assists. Leah Schultz controlled five draws and Kelsey Evans made 10 saves in goal for the Spartans (5-1).

First-year Mollyann Pais (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) controlled five ground balls and caused three turnovers to lead the Red Devils. Dawson added three draw controls to her two goals while senior Taryn Abbassian (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) tallied an assist and controlled a pair of draws.

Amanda Morse (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made four saves in the cage while first-year JoJo Auerbach (Chevy Chase, Md./Bullis School) made seven stops in the second half.

The #20-ranked Red Devils slip to 2-4 overall while York improves to 5-1. Dickinson heads south for spring break. They are scheduled to face the University of Scranton at 11:00 am on Tuesday and McDaniel College at 2:00 pm on Thursday in Hilton Head, S.C.
