Red Devils Turn Back Owls 21-2 in CC Opener

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's lacrosse team turned back Bryn Mawr, 21-2, in its Centennial Conference opener on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Red Devils stormed out to a 9-0 lead before the Owls answered with an unassisted tally by Kathleen Manger at the 13:55 mark of the first half.

 

Val Hoffman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) put the Devils on the board, just 1:11 into the contest, scoring off an assist from first-year Ali Dawson (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place). Dawson fed senior Kaity Moore (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrew's, Del.) just 43 seconds later to trigger the attack that would post 12 goals in the first half.

 

The Devils held a 13-2 advantage at the break, holding the Owls to 11 shots. Amanda Morse (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made six saves in the opening 30 minutes.

 

The Devils struck again, just 18 seconds into the second half. Sophomore Brett Whelan (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) fed Ella Cough (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatiius Prep) right off the draw.

 

The Devils held Bryn Mawr without a shot in the second half as Morse split time in the cage with first-year JoJo Auerbach (Chevy Chase, Md./The Bullis School).

 

Burstein led the attack with three goals and two assists while Hoffman finished with a hat-trick as well. First-year Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day School) tallied three goals and an assist, scoring back-to-back goals midway through the second half.

 

On the day, 14 Red Devils found the scoring column as they recorded 15 assists on 21 goals. The Devils held an 18-5 advantage on draw controls while Megan Taylor (Kensington, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) controlled four ground balls as Dickinson held an 18-7 edge in that category.

 

Kate Fleming made eight saves in goal and controlled a pair of GBs for Bryn Mawr (1-2, 0-2).

 

The Red Devils improve to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Ursinus College next Saturday to face the Bears at 12:00 pm.
