(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College baseball team banged out 15 hits in a 14-5 win over Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions capitalized on walks and errors to take a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Devils scored a pair in the second behind four hits and two stolen bases. Jordan Kaufman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) tripled to score Tyler Rosa' (Carmel, Calif./Stevenson School) in the third inning.
Kaufman came in on an RBI single from Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth, N.J./Ridge) to put Dickinson on top, 4-3. Penn State tied the game briefly in the top of the sixth.
Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) doubled to lead-off the bottom of the inning. Andrew Sterling (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) drew all walk and came in on a two-run homer by Rosa'. Tursi came in on a sacrifice fly from first-year Sam Wachs (Severna Park, Md./Severn School.
Following a 1-2-3 top, the Devils blew the game open with seven runs to lead, 14-4. Sciambi doubled and stole third in the inning while Kaufman launched a grand slam to finish 4-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored.
The Lions added another run in the eighth for the final of 14-5.
Sciambi went 4-for-5 as well, scoring twice and driving in two runs. Kaufman was a double shy of the cycle while Tursi went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Rosa' drew a pair of walks to go with his two RBIs and three runs scored for the day.
Charlie Gaines (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School) struck out six batters in five innings of work. Andrew Mauro (Washington, D.C./Mercersburg) came on in relief, earning the win with three solid innings. Bryan Wacker (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) came on to close, adding a strikeout in the final inning.
The Red Devils improve to 10-5 overall. They travel to Messiah College tomorrow for a make-up date at 3:30 pm.
