Inside the Game
  • After a scoreless first against Devils starter Nolan Ross, Will Ferris reached on a one-out error and Johnny Bruno singled to left, before both runners swiped a bag. Kyle Bailey provided an RBI single to right and Luke Gartland notched a sacrifice fly to center making it 2-0 through one.
  • Steven Dimovski picked up a two-out single in the top of the second, but Ross got Matthew Lehberger to ground out to Gartland at short for the final out. A one-out knock by Matt Conforti, walk to Ethan Sodl and a double steal had two in scoring position for Dylan Posencheg. He whacked the Jason Ugalde pitch to center field driving home one for the 3-0 edge.
  • For the second straight frame, the visitors put runners on, but were not able to get anyone home as Thomas Pranzo went down on strikes to retire the side. Bailey and Gartland reached on a walk and error respectively to have men in scoring position with one gone. After Miguel Reich worked a walk to load the bags, Freeman Hunt came up with a sac fly to center pushing the margin to 4-0.
  • Over the next two innings both Ross and Ugalde settled in and kept the teams from getting ahead across home as things stayed 4-0 into the sixth.
  • Drew Norton took over on the hill for Ross to open the sixth and setdown the Mules in order on just eleven pitches. However, Frank Kern was just as solid needing only six throws to retire the trio of Conforti, Posencheg and Ferris.
  • The away finally cracked the scoreboard in the seventh when a walk to Lehberger set the stage for Sean Habeeb to notch an RBI single to cut it down to 4-1. Fortunately, the Red and White recovered that run following the seventh-inning stretch when Bruno opened things up with a solo blast (5-1).
  • An error and single had two on for the guests during the eighth allowing a sacrifice fly by Thomas Rorick to pull one back. Charlie Bien went to the hill for the ninth and gave up a walk and single, before Jason Hughes came up with a two-run knock to center field making it 5-4 with one on and no outs. Bien then retired Spencer Hobson on a fly out to center, before getting Emmy Bulis to ground into a game-ending 3-4-3 double play.
