Haglund Leads Devil Rally Past Haverford

(Haverford, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's lacrosse team doubled-up host Haverford in the second half to post a 6-3 win on Saturday afternoon.

 

The teams traded goals over the course of the first half, playing to a 3-3 tie. The hosts struck first, scoring at the 25:36 mark. Val Hoffman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) finished an assist from Kaity Moore (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrew's, Del.) just 25 seconds later to pull even.

 

Josie Ferri tallied for Haverford with first-year Megan Taylor (Kensington, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) answering exactly two minutes later, scoring unassisted with 20:19 left to play. Diana Perry gave the 'Fords a 3-2 advantage at the 9:13 mark. Kelly Haglund (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) found the net off an assist from Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day School) with just 21 seconds remaining in the half to pull the Devils even, 3-3, at the break.

 

Perrin Downing and Ferri tallied back-to-back goals, just 13 seconds apart to take a 5-3 lead with 23:41 remaining. That triggered a five-goal surge by the Red Devils to overtake the 'Fords, 8-5, with 12:22 left in the game.

 

Junior Clare Manoli (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) started the rally, netting back-to-back assists from Haglund in a span of 59 seconds. She struck just 20 seconds after Ferri put the 'Fords up by a pair.

 

Hoffman made the score 7-5 at the 18:24 mark, scoring off an assist from O'Brien. Haglund found the net again with 12:22 on the clock to stretch the lead to 8-5.

 

Downing stopped the run, scoring unassisted with 6:19 left in the game. Haglund closed things out with an added insurance goal with 2:23 remaining in regulation.

 

Haglund finished with three goals and two assists on the afternoon. Ali Dawson (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) tallied five draw controls while Manoli controlled a pair of draws and four ground balls.

 

Brett Whelan (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) caused three turnovers, controlled four GBs and a pair of draws. Amanda Morse (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made two saves in goal for the Devils.

 

The Red Devils improve to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference. They host Washington College next Saturday at 12:00 pm.
