Red Devil Women Suffer 15-9 Setback to Swarthmore

(Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's lacrosse team suffered a 15-9 setback at Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon.

 

Swarthmore struck quickly, putting a goal on the board in the first 1:13 on a goal by Marie Mutryn. Senior Kaity Moore (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrew's, Del.) answered two minutes later before the Garnet went on a 4-0 run.

 

Sophomore Val Hoffman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) converted a free position before Swarthmore struck twice in a span of just 37 seconds to take a 7-2 lead with 3:01 remaining in the first half.

 

Moore found the net once again for the Red Devils at the 1:29 mark before Mutryn tallied with just eight seconds on the clock.

 

Dickinson came out for the second half and went on a 4-2 run to pull within three at 10-7, with 11:03 remaining in the game. Four different players scored during the run with Moore netting a goal and handing out an assist to first-year Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day School).

 

Swarthmore took control of the game, scoring four straight goals over the next six minutes to stretch the lead to 14-7, with exactly five minutes on the clock.

 

Lauren Jonas (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) tallied her second goal of the day, and Kelly Haglund (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Holy Cross) answered a goal by Corinne Sommi for the final of 15-9.

 

Mutryn led the Garnet (10-4, 4-3) with four goals and two assists while Annalise Penikis tallied three goals and two assists. Michelle Ammerma made 10 saves in goal for the hosts.

 

Moore finished with three goals and one assist. Kara Glazer (Towson, Md./Towson) added a pair of assists on the day while first-year Ali Dawson (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) controlled seven draws.

 

First-year JoJo Auerbach (Chevy Chase, Md./Bullis School) made eight saves in the Red Devil cage while Amanda Morse (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made three stops.

 

The Red Devils slip to 6-8 overall and 3-4 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm.
