(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's lacrosse team suffered a 16-11 setback to #7-ranked Franklin & Marshall in the regular season finale on Saturday.
The Red Devils played even with the Diplomats over the opening 10 minutes. First-year Kelly Haglund (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) scored at the 21:42 mark to put the Devils on the board and cut into an early, 2-0, F&M lead.
The Diplomats answered with a 4-0 run, scoring a pair of free position goals to hold a 6-1 advantage with 13:52 remaining in the half.
Sophomore Val Hoffman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) found the net for the Devils at the 7:01 mark and Clare Manoli (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) fed Ella Clough (Chicago, Ill./Ignatius College Prep) to cut the deficit to, 6-3, with 3:49 to play in the half.
The Diplomats tacked on another pair of goals to hold an 8-3 lead at the break. They tallied two more in the opening five minutes of the second half to stretch the margin to 10-3.
Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day School) assisted Taryn Abbassian (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) and traded goals with Mary Mitchell to raise the score to 11-5, with 21:11 remaining in the game.
A 4-1 run over the next 10 minutes put F&M in control, 15-6, at the 11:33 mark. The Red Devils looked to rally, scoring the next five goals to cut the lead to 15-11, but with just under two minutes to play.
Kaity Moore (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrew's, Del.) started the run, assisting O'Brien at the 10:12 mark. Lauren Jonas (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) fed Haglund, and Moore struck again to make the score, 15-9.
The Devils converted a pair of free positions shots from Abbassian and first-year Megan Taylor (Kensington, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) to pull within four.
Kara Stanley closed out the scoring, netting a free position for F&M for the final of 16-11.
Caroline Krohn led F&M (13-3, 8-1 CC) with three goals and four assists while Kelsey Hoffman made 11 saves in goal.
Abbassian controlled five draws to go with her two goals on the day. O'Brien and Haglund each finished with two goals while Moore and Jonas each went 1-1 on the day. Amanda Morse (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made 12 saves in the nets for the Devils.
The Red Devils finish the season 8-8 overall and 4-5 in the Centennial Conference.
