(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College field hockey team rallied for the second straight day, but suffered the same fate as well, falling 4-3 in overtime to Shenandoah University on Saturday.
The Hornets put a goal on the board at the 25:50 mark and stretched the lead to 2-0 in the 21st minute.
The Devils came alive, answering with three straight goals to pull in front, 3-2, at halftime. First-year Caroline Karwel (Fairfax Station, Va./South County Secondary) started the rally, scoring off a corner, assisted by senior Alex Boorse (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) in the 25th minute.
Alexandra Becker (Spring House, Pa./Germantown Academy) tied the game on an assist from Lauren Wyman (Akron, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy), less than a minute later.
First-year Allison Forhan (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve) gave Dickinson the lead with an unassisted goal with 2:43 remaining in the first half.
Sarah DeLuca tallied her second goal of the day, tying the game with just over 26 minutes remaining in regulation. Sarah Brock closed out the game, scoring 7:47 into overtime to lift the Hornets to a 4-3 decision.
The Devils held a 25-17 advantage in shots, forcing Sarah Clare to make 11 saves. Junior Katy Schlecthweg (Mount Laurel, Md./Moorestown Friends) made seven saves in goal for Dickinson.
The Red Devils slip to 0-2 on the season. They return to action on Wednesday, hosting Wilson College at 4:00 pm.
