(Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision at Swarthmore College on Saturday as the Garnet tallied three goals in each half.
Nia Jones scored twice while Aarti Rao tallied a pair of assists to lead the Garnet as they improved to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in the Centennial Conference.
Dickinson kept Swarthmore off the board for the opening 20 minutes. The Garnet struck in the 21st minute and added two more goals in a span of just over nine minutes.
The Red Devils put one on the board, just over five minutes into the second half. First-year Alyssa Stillwell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) scored from the left wing to make the score, 4-1.
Jones scored just 19 seconds later to stretch the margin to 4-1. The Garnet added two more, including a penalty stroke by Catie Meador in the 57th minute.
The hosts held a 28-7 advantage in shots and forced 20 corners while allowing five on the defensive end. Junior goaltender Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) made 12 saves for the Red Devils.
Dickinson slips to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play. They return home to host FDU-Florham on Tuesday at 4:00 pm.
