(Carlisle, Pa.) - The homecoming match against visiting Muhlenberg College proved to be an uphill battle for the Dickinson College field hockey team on Saturday. The Mules struck once in the first half, and tallied three more after the break.
Leading into the first half, the score remained steady and looked to be equally matched. With several corners, the Devils had many scoring opportunities but none unable to find the back of the cage. The first goal was scored by the Mules in the last few minutes, ending the first half with a score of 1-0.
The second half continued the battle for the Devils with the Mules coming back with an immediate goal, followed by a penalty stroke, bringing the score to 3-0.
The Devils retorted with vigor as first-year Tara Black (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) , senior Marybeth McCarthy (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and sophomore Fallon Winters (Spring Lake, N.J./Moorestown Friends) recorded defensive saves on the afternoon, .
Unfortunately, the Mules came back with a final goal ending the game with a 4-0 win.
First-year goaltender Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Notre Dame Academy) came on in the second half to record 10 saves for the Red Devils.
Kristen Dorenberg made five saves for Muhlenberg (6-3, 2-2) while Sierra came on to stop a pair of shots in the final seven minutes.
The Red Devil's slip to 4-6 overall and 0-4 in Centennial Conference play. They travel to McDaniel College on October 3rd for a 4:30 pm start.
