(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Gettysburg College women's basketball team used a strong start and held off a Dickinson rally en route to a 62-46 win on Wednesday night.
The host Bullets jumped out to a 6-0 lead and held a 14-6 advantage at the 11:42 mark of the first half. The Red Devils went on a run, late in the half, taking a 23-20 lead on back-to-back three-pointers from senior Lindsay Finnerty (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly).
Finnerty capped a 14-4 run by the Red Devils to put them in front, 23-20, at the 3:36 mark. Gettysburg closed out the half with a 8-0 run of their own, taking a 29-23 lead into the break.
The Red Devils pulled even at the 17:45 mark on back-to-back scores from sophomore Sarah Phillips (West Amwell, N.J./South Hunterdon), tying the game, 30-30. The Bullets used an 11-2 run to stretch the lead to 41-32, with 13:21 remaining.
Dickinson cut the deficit to five, once again, but a 14-2 run put the hosts in front, 55-38, with 7:42 to play in the game. The Red Devils played even down the stretch but could not close the gap in the final minutes.
Alyssa Isler scored a game-high 19 points to lead Gettysburg as they improve to 12-5 overall and 9-3 in the Centennial Conference. Caroline Murphy added a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds to go with five steals and a pair of blocked shots. The Bullets went to the line just eight times, but converted seven, shooting 88 percent on the night.
Senior Dana Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) led the Red Devils with 10 points, six assists and four rebounds. Phillips tallied nine points while Finnerty finished with eight points and five rebounds.
Bridget Borgese (Swarthmore, Pa./Notre Dame de Namur) scored eight points and controlled four rebounds while classmate Belma Mekic (Sarajevo, Bosnia/Cedar Cliff, Pa.) led the Devils with eight rebounds.
The Red Devils are on the road again on Saturday, traveling to Ursinus College for a 1:00 pm start.
