Red Devils Sail Past Shorewomen for 10th Win

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team turned in another dominant performance on Saturday, turning back visiting Washington College, 5-2. The Red Devils add to their school record, winning their ninth consecutive game to improve to 10-2 overall and 6-0 in the Centennial Conference.

The Red Devils dominated play for the better part of the game, but Washington did have chances to put the ball in the cage. Following a scoreless start to the match, the Devils went to work, scoring three times in the final 14 minutes of the first half.

The Red Devils' leading scorer, Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy), started things off, scoring in the 22nd minute. Perlmutter made a hard run to catch up with the play as the Devils countered with a fast break. She received a beautiful pass from sophomore Caroline Karwel (Fairfax Station, Va./South County Secondary) and ripped a shot from just inside the circle.

Dickinson capitalized on a penalty corner, eight minutes later. Junior Ali Becker (Spring House, Pa./Germantown Academy) rattled the cage after first-year Maddie Groves (Acton, Mass./Lawrence Academy) flipped a pass across the goal mouth to her stick, with 5:28 remaining in the first half.

Less than two minutes later, the Devils would strike again. This time sophomore Taylor Meehan (Phoenixville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) would finish, redirecting a pass from Perlmutter, with 4:14 on the clock.

The score would remain 3-0 as the teams went into halftime. Washington came out of the break looking to try and rally its way back into the game. They forced seven corners to open the second half, capitalizing on the final attempt. Elizabeth Davis put the Shorewomen on the board. Heather Noto tallied an assist on the play, making the score 3-1, with 21:17 to play in the game.

The Devils would answer 1:05 later, using a penalty corner of their own to net the fourth goal of the game. Kendall Packo (Timonium, Md./Notre Dame Prep) carried the ball around the top of the circle, finding Groves inside the circle. Groves' shot was saved but first-year Erica Marshall (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) was there to put the rebound in the back of the cage for a 4-1 lead.

Sophomore Tara Black (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) closed out the scoring for Dickinson in the 59th minute. Junior Natalie Polk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) sent a beautiful pass across the top of the circle, threading the needle to Black, who put the ball away to stretch the margin to, 5-1.

Jackie O'Connell tacked on a late goal for Washington, scoring with just 1:42 remaining in the contest for the final of 5-2.

Perlmutter finished with a goal and an assist while Groves tallied a pair of assists on the day. Schlechtweg made five saves in the nets.

Harryman turned in a strong performance in goal as well, making 14 saves against the potent Red Devil attack. Emile Eline added a defensive save for Washington as well, as they slip to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

The Red Devils (10-2, 6-0 CC) travel to Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday night for a 7:00 pm start.
