(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team suffered a 3-1 setback to #6-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats struck twice in the first half en route to their 15th win of the season, and ninth straight win in the Centennial Conference.
Juliet Dalton put the Diplomats on the board, just 3:17 into the contest. She finished the first of two, Maria Guarisco assists, redirecting a shot into the cage. Guarisco recorded her second in the 10th minute, ripping a shot that was deflected off the stick of Lauren Eastman.
F&M struck again, in the 56th minute as Tamara Mills tallied her first goal of the season, assisted by Tess Reinhold.
Junior Ali Becker (Spring House, Pa./Germantown Academy) spoiled the shutout, blasting a shot into the cage from the top left of the circle.
The match was relatively even, statistically. F&M held a 13-9 advantage in shots while the Devils had an 11-8 edge in penalty corners.
Avery Koop made four saves for F&M. Senior Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) stopped five shots on the day for the Devils.
The Diplomats improve to 15-1 overall and 9-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 12-4 and 7-2 in the CC. Dickinson travels to Gettysburg next Saturday for the regular season finale. Start time is slated for 1:00 pm.
