(York, Pa.) – The Dickinson volleyball team suffered a pair of losses on Saturday, falling to Southern Virginia, 3-0, and host York College, 3-1.
The Red Devils were competitive in each set against Southern Virginia in the opener. The Knights claimed the opener, 25-19, and survived a close second set, 25-23. Dickinson tried to force a fourth set, but SVU closed out the match with a 25-17 decision in the final stanza.
Shyanne Ison led the attack with 10 kills, adding eight digs while Katelynn Tlustek handed out 22 assists.
Sophomore Laura Silverman (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) led the Red Devils with 10 kills while first-year Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) added nine.
Sophomore setter Jenn Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) handed out 14 assists and first-year Avery Dravis Stark (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) dished out 11. Grace Morgan (Williamsburg, Va./York Suburban) picked up 10 digs with first-year Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) recording seven.
Dickinson battled with York College in the nightcap, suffering a 3-1 setback to the host Spartans. It was a hard fought match the entire way. The Red Devils dropped the first two sets, 25-18 and 26-24. They survived another marathon set in the third, claiming a, 27-25, decision.
York responded to capture the fourth and the match, in another closely contested set, 25-22.
Silverman led the way again, recording 12 kills while Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) added 11 and Ahern reached double-figures with 10.
First-year Maureen Marsh (Great Falls, Va./Langley) came on to add five kills and a pair of blocks. Morgan served up three aces to go with 11 digs. Joanna De Castro (Far Hills, N.J./West Morris Mendham) tallied three aces as well and recorded 10 digs.
The Red Devils slip to 5-11 on the season. They return to Centennial Conference action on Wednesday night, hosting Gettysburg College at 7:00 pm.
