Red Devils Run Past St. Mary's 19-9

(Brooklandville, Md.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team rolled past St. Mary's, 19-9, at the St. Paul's School for Girls, on Saturday.

 

The Red Devils opened the game with a 4-1 run. Sophomore Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day School) struck twice in a span of 15 seconds to cap the run.

 

Shelby Newman scored her second of the game before the Devils went on a 5-0 run to take a 9-2 advantage at the 5:06 mark. O'Brien closed out this run as well, scoring the Devils' eighth goal and assisting Megan Taylor (Kensington, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross).

 

The Seahawks scored twice and junior Lauren Jonas (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) finished assists from Catie Ledwick (Weston, Conn./Weston) and Claire Manoli (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) to give Dickinson an 11-4 lead at the break.

 

Dickinson continued the run to open the second half. Sophomores Ali Dawson (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) and Kelly Haglund (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) started things off, and seniors Linzi Burstein (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) and Kara Glazer (Towson, Md./Towson) connected to stretch the margin to 14-4, with 23:57 remaining.

 

Burstein handed out three assists, matching the Seahawks to give the Devils a 17-7 cushion at the 13:30 mark. First-year Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) scored off of one of Burstein's assists and dished out a pair of her own to close out the scoring.

 

Morrissey finished with three goals and two assists while O'Brien tallied three goals and an assist. Haglund and Jonas each scored three times as well. Brett Whelan (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) controlled seven draws and three ground balls, adding a pair of caused turnovers.

 

Haglund and Morrissey each pulled in five draws  as the Devils held a 21-9 advantage for the game.

 

Amanda Morse (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and Grace Morelli (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) split time in goal, each making three saves.

 

Newman led St. Mary's (1-1) with three goals. Kayla Dunn made three saves and Kelly Shuman stopped a pair of shots in goal for the Seahawks.

 

The Red Devils (1-1) return home to face Susquehanna next Thursday at 4:00 pm.
