(Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team suffered another tough loss in Centennial Conference play, falling 13-10, at Swarthmore College on Saturday.
The Red Devils struck first before the hosts rattled-off three straight goals in a span of just under two minutes to lead, 3-1, with 26:46 remaining in the first half. First-year Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) put the Devils on the board in the opening minute, finishing an assist from senior Kara Glazer (Towson, Md./Towson).
Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) and Clare Manoli (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) tallied back-to-back goals to pull the Devils even, 3-3, with just over 20 minutes to play in the half.
The Garnet answered with four unanswered goals and closed out the half with a 6-2 run to take a 9-5 lead at halftime.
The Red Devils turned in a strong second half, outscoring Swarthmore, 5-4. Annalise Penikis added an early goal for the Garnet before a 5-2 run by Dickinson cut the deficit to 12-10, with 3:53 on the clock. Glazer started things off, scoring unassisted at the 19:22 mark, and Manoli scored off an assist from senior Linzi Burstein (Alexandria, Va./TC Williams) with 14:36 remaining.
Penikis dished out and assist and scored another for Swarthmore to make the score, 12-7. The Red Devils netted the next three to pull within two, with 3:53 on the clock. Carly O'Brien (Cranberry, N.J./Princeton Day School) at the 4:19 mark and Morrissey assisted Kelly Haglund (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart), just 16 seconds later.
Manoli kept the run going, scoring off an assist from sophomore Ali Dawson (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) to cut the lead to 12-10. Swarthmore added an insurance goal with 2:28 remaining and held on for the win.
Penikis finished with four goals and five assists to lead Swarthmore as they improved to 10-4 overall and 4-3 in the Centennial Conference. Michelle Ammerman made eight saves in the Garnet goal.
Morrissey finished with a hat-trick and an assist while Manoli tallied three goals as well. Dawson controlled a game-high seven draws. Sophomore Grace Morelli (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) made six saves in the first half and senior Amanda Morse (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) came on to make three in the second.
The Red Devils slip to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Muhlenberg for a 4:00 start on Wednesday.
