Bears Claw Past #9-Ranked Red Devils in CC Opener

Box Score

(Collegeville, Pa.) – The #9-ranked Dickinson men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker to open Centennial Conference play at Ursinus College on Saturday. The Bears tallied a goal in the first half and were able to hold off a potent Red Devil offense to claim the opener.

The Red Devils were without the services of leading scorer, Derek Kachadurian (Weston, Mass./Weston), and were unable to generate the equalizer on Saturday.

Ryan Molyneaux finished a cross from Charles Brodsky in the 14th minute to put the Bears on the scoreboard. Brodsky collected a nice pass into the right corner and served a nice cross to Molyneaux on the back post for the only tally of the contest.

The match went back-and-forth with both teams generating dangerous chances in their respective attacking ends of the field.

Solid defensive play kept the shot totals modest on both sides as the Bears held a 9-6 advantage while each team allowed just one corner for the entire match.

Ryan Murphy made three saves for Ursinus as they improve to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference. Sophomore Jacob Schreer (Towako, N.J./Morristown Beard) earned the start in the Dickinson nets, making a pair of saves on the day.

The Red Devils, ranked ninth by D3soccer.com and 11th in the latest NSCAA poll, slip to 5-2 overall and 0-1 to open conference play. They travel to the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday for a 4:00 pm kick-off.
