(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team had a tough outing against Centennial Conference leader, Johns Hopkins, on Thursday night, falling 64-42 at the Kline Center. The Blue Jays remained unbeaten on conference play, improving to 8-0 while raising their overall record to 10-3 on the season.
The Red Devils played even with the Blue Jays in the early going, as they have been able to do in almost every game. Hopkins pulled in front, 11-6, with just over 14 minutes remaining in the first half, but Dickinson would rally.
Sophomore Erica Buls (New Market, Md./Oakdale) brought the Red Devils back to even with a pair of free throws and a three-point play. A 14-2 run by the Blue Jays gave the visitors their biggest advantage of the night. Katie Clark knocked-down a three-pointer to put Hopkins up, 25-13, at the 8:12 mark.
Buls cut the deficit to seven in the final minutes of the half before the Blue Jays went into the break with a 35-23 advantage.
Hopkins continued to build on the lead in the second half despite a strong effort on the part of the Red Devils. Dickinson struggled from the line, hitting just 8-of-19 free throws on the night, and just one in the second half.
Buls led the Red Devils with 12 points and seven rebounds, adding a pair of blocked shots on the night. Buls was solid at the line, converting 8-of-11 free throw attempts.
Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) tallied six points while Rachel Sisco (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and Liz Schultz (Dunmore, Pa./Scranton Prep) each hit a three-pointer for five points.
Clark led the Blue Jays (10-3, 8-0), with a career-high 20 points, adding five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Alyssa Fleming and Liz Tommasi reached double-figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The Red Devils slip to 3-10 overall and 0-8 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road this weekend, traveling to Haverford College on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
