(Bryn Mawr, Pa.) – The Dickinson volleyball team broke back into the win column on Saturday, posting a 3-1 win at Bryn Mawr College.
The Red Devils opened with a 25-18 win in the first set. Leading 8-7, First-year Lauren Beecher (Madison, Mass./Madison) served for seven straight points as Dickinson pulled in front, 15-7.
Bryn Mawr looked to answer, making a run to cut a 21-11 deficit to 22-17. First-year Gillian Chan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep Country Day) tallied four kills in the opener as the Devils started off with a 25-18 decision.
Bryn Mawr used a 5-0 run to gain some momentum in the second set, taking a 9-6 advantage. The Owls led 15-8 before a 6-0 clip for the Red Devils pulled them within one at 15-14. The hosts answered an held a three-point cushion down the stretch, finishing 25-17 to tie the match.
The Devils jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the third set, and led 16-11 before the Owls cut the margin to 17-15. Dickinson capitalized on a couple of Bryn Mawr errors and back-to-back kills from Erin Bongo (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) to pull in front, 22-17. The Owls pulled within two, but the Devils would hold on down the stretch for a 25-22 win to lead the match, 2-1.
The Red Devils had the advantage for most of the fourth set, but could not extend the lead past three. The teams traded points throughout the middle of the set, playing to six ties with the final coming at, 19-19.
The Devils pulled away at the end as sophomore Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) served an ace to close out the set, 25-20, to claim the match, 3-1.
Chan led the attack with a match-high 14 kills while junior Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) added 11 kills, three aces and eight digs.
Bongo and Beecher each finished with nine kills on the day. Bongo added 12 digs while Beecher added a pair of aces and four blocks. Junior setter Jenn Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) dished out 41 assists and sophomore libero Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) tallied a match-high 15 digs.
Rachel Ofili and Sarah Gates led Bryn Mawr (9-11, 0-5 CC) with 11 kills each while Danielle Preziuso handed out 37 assists.
The Red Devils improve to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Gettysburg on Wednesday for a 7:00 pm match with the Bullets.
