Red Devil Erupt Late for 9-1 Win

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #20-ranked Dickinson field hockey team erupted in the late minutes to post a 9-1 win over visiting Bryn Mawr College on Saturday.

 

The Owls put up a fight early as the Red Devils held just a 2-1 lead at halftime. Dickinson came alive, scoring four goals in the final five minutes of the contest.

 

Sophomore Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) put the Devils in the board, scoring unassisted, with just under 18 minutes remaining in the first half. She struck again, three minutes later to stretch the lead to 2-0.

 

The Owls held their own in the first half, putting a goal in the board with 4:43 left to make the score, 2-1. Ashley Arbuckle slipped the ball in keep things interesting at the break.

 

The Red Devils came out of halftime strong to take control of the game. Sophomore Maddie Groves (Acton, Mass./Lawrence Academy) found the back of the cage, scoring off an assist from junior Caroline Karwel) in the 41st minute.

 

First-year Emilie Arrix (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) had a stick in the next three goals, scoring twice around an assist to classmate Lily Mott (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) to stretch the lead to 6-1, with just over five minutes to play in the game.

 

Perlmutter earned an assist with a great set-up pass on Arrix's second goal. She then tallied her third of the game, just over a minute after sophomore Kendal Packo (Timonium, Md./Notre Dame Prep) put a shot in the back of the cage to make the score, 8-1.

 

The Red Devils capitalized on a late penalty in the final minute with a beautifully executed corner. Sophomore Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) rattled the cage, off assists from Tara Black (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) and Sarah Cole (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) for the final of 9-1.

 

Alex Weinfeld made 16 saves in goal for the Owls (2-9, 0-6 CC), facing 25 shots on goal.

 

The Red Devils outshot the Owls, 48-1 on the day, holding a 19-2 advantage in penalty corners.

 

Junior Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) earned the win in goal for the Red Devils as they improve to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in the Centennial Conference.

 

The Red Devils are back on the road next weekend, traveling to Washington College for a 1:00 pm start on Saturday.
