VIDEO: RDSN: Dickinson v. Johns Hopkins, T. Black

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team rallied from a 1-0 deficit to overtake visiting Johns Hopkins, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Biddle Field.

The Red Devils broke the school record with their 54th goal of the season, also eclipsing the school mark for points with 141, set last season. The Devils tied their 2013 school record with the 33rd assist of the year as well.

The Blue Jays struck first, scoring in the 17th minute. Morgan Pothast fired shot through a crowd, following a penalty corner to put Hopkins on the board.

Junior Tara Black (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) would answer, capitalizing on a corner of her own. Black triggered the insert and then collected a rebound and put the ball in the cage to pull the Devils even with just over five minutes remaining in the half.

The Red Devils tallied the game-winner 10 minutes into the second half. Black proved to be the catalyst once again, tight-roping the end line before finding classmate Alyssa Stillwell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) open in front of the goal. Stillwell netted her ninth goal of the season to put the Devils in front.

The Red Devil defense was solid all afternoon, holding the Blue Jays to just six shots in the game. Hopkins scored on their only attempt in the first half and managed just five after the break. The Devils also held the advantage in penalty corners, 10-6, holding a 7-3 edge in the opening 35 minutes.

Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) anchored the defensive effort, along with classmate Kendal Packo (Timonium, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and first-year Danielle Schwab (Highland, Md./River Hill).

Junior Caroline Karwel (Fairfax Station, Va./South County Secondary) turned in a strong performance in the midfield, playing solid defense and controlling the Devils' transition throughout the game.

Junior goaltender Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) made four saves in goal for the Red Devils while Zoey Atabek stopped five shots for Hopkins.

The Red Devils improve to 11-4 overall and 5-3 in the Centennial Conference. They have another big contest on Saturday, traveling to #6-ranked Ursinus College. They then return home for the regular season finale against #5-ranked Franklin & Marshall.
