(Westminster, Md.) – The #20-ranked Dickinson field hockey team suffered its second straight loss, falling at McDaniel College, 3-1, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Red Devils came out strong, forcing a penalty corner and scoring in the opening two minutes of the contest. First-year Lily Mott (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) blasted a shot into the cage, off an assist from classmate Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunterdon), with just 1:17 off the clock.
The Green Terror pulled even on a penalty corner of their own, tying the game with 7:08 remaining in the first half. Gabrielle Yore scored the first of what would become a natural hat-trick, finishing an assist from Sarah Bach for her 10th goal of the season.
Yore put McDaniel in front in the 44th minute, capitalizing on a scramble in front of the cage. She added another insurance goal with just over five minutes remaining in the game, collecting another loose ball inside the circle to tally her third goal of the day.
The Green Terror held the advantage in shots, 12-4, and doubled-up the Devils in penalty corners, 10-5.
Caila White made three saves in goal to earn the win for McDaniel as they improve to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the Centennial Conference.
Junior Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) made three saves in the first half for the Red Devils. First-year Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) came on to make a pair of saves after the break.
The Red Devils slip to 9-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play. They return home to host Bryn Mawr College on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
