(Carlisle, Pa.) –The Dickinson field hockey team played a strong match against #5-ranked Franklin & Marshall, but the Diplomats tallied a pair of second half goals to claim a 2-0 decision in Saturday's regular season finale.
The Devils had a great first half, keeping the score even behind strong defensive play. Junior goaltender Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) made six saves in the first half.
First-year Danielle Schwab (Highland, Mass./River Hill) added a defensive save as the Devils faced eight shots and four penalty corners.
F&M capitalized on a corner in the second half. Sydney Cole redirected a deflected shot of the stick of Tamara Mills to put the Diplomats on the board, 8:27 after the break.
Cole tallied her second of the game and 10th of the season in the 61st minute, redirecting an assist from Mary Kate Olson.
The Red Devils did have chances in the second half. Allie Morey dodged back-to-back shots from senior Natalie Polk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic).
Fuss turned in an outstanding performance, finishing with 14 saves, turning away nine shots in the second half.
The Red Devils finish the season 11-5 overall and 5-5 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils set school records this season with 54 goals and 141 points.
