Mules Strike Late to Advance to Conference Final

Box Score

(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback to Muhlenberg College in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Championship on Saturday.

The Mules bested the Devils for the second time this season to advance to the final against Haverford College, who upset top seed and #2-ranked Franklin & Marshall in the other semifinal.

Play was relatively even throughout the match with the Mules holding a slight advantage in the first half. Muhlenberg managed to generate seven shots while keeping Dickinson to just a pair. The second half was much tighter with the Mules holding a 4-3 edge in shots and 3-1 in corners.

Muhlenberg found the back of the net, following one of those corners in the 74th minute. Tommy Hoffman made a back pass out of a scramble and Lance Dotzman was able to score the lone goal and send the Mules to the final.

The Red Devils had some strong chances to pull even but could not tally the equalizer. Dickinson had a great opportunity with just under seven minutes to play, breaking through the defense but the shot went just wide of the net.

Haverford stunned top-seed F&M, 2-0, to advance to the final. The 'Fords will face the Mules at 2:00 pm at Franklin & Marshall on Sunday.

The Red Devils slip to 11-5-2 overall and will now have to await a possible NCAA bid, announced on Monday.
