(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team dropped its season finale on Saturday, falling to visiting Franklin & Marshall, 61-49.
The Diplomats opened the game with an 8-2 run but the Red Devils quickly answered with a lay-up from Kelsey Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and three-pointer from junior Sarah Phillips (West Amwell, N.J./South Hunterdon) to pull even.
First-year Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) hit a jumper to pull Dickinson within a field-goal, 10-12, at the midpoint of half. F&M built the lead to double-figures at the five minute mark, and held a 31-18 advantage at halftime.
The Diplomats scored the first six points of the second half to stretch the margin to 37-18, with 16:39 remaining in the game. Sophomore Rachel Sisco (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) knocked-down a three-pointer at the 11:16 mark, making the score 43-27.
The teams would trade baskets over the course of the next seven minutes. Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) and Erica Buls (New Market, Md./Oakdale) scored back-to-back to cut the deficit to 13, with 5:29 to play in regulation.
The Diplomats would keep the lead in double-figures, despite a strong push by the Red Devils in the final minutes. Junior Liz Schultz (Dunmore, Pa./Scranton Prep) scored seven points down the stretch, hitting a three-pointer and four free throws to make the final margin 12.
Jessica Dowitz led Franklin & Marshall (4-21, 2-16) with a game-high 16 points, adding seven rebounds, five blocked shots and three assists. Kristina McCarthy and Emma Lisle each scored 13 while Lisle added 13 rebounds for a double-double.
Schultz led the Red Devils with 12 points and six rebounds, hitting 5-of-7 free throws. Roberts finished with seven points and four steals. Jennifer Smith (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) tallied six points, three assists and a pair of steals. Sisco added six points while Phillips and Martin each finished with five. Martin dished out three assists and made three steals on the day.
The Red Devils close out the season, 5-19 overall and 1-16 in the Centennial Conference.
