Green Terror Hold Off Red Devils 12-11

Box Score

(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team had a chance to tie the game in the final 20 seconds, but came up just short, falling at McDaniel College, 12-11, on Wednesday night.

The Green Terror struck in the opening minute and the teams traded goals until Danielle Entrot handed out back-to-back assists to put McDaniel in front, 4-2, with 21:06 remaining in the half.

Sydney Stern (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) answered at the 13:31 mark before the Terror tallied twice to take a 6-3 advantage. Stern fed classmate Katie Iverson (Marblehead, Mass./Pingree School) before Entrot scored again to make the score, 7-4.

Junior Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day) dished out a pair of assists to close out the half, finding Stern and sophomore Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) to pull the Devils within a goal, 7-6, at halftime.

Sophomore Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) tied the game, just under two minutes into the second half.

The Green Terror went on a 3-0 run to lead, 10-7, with 19:49 remaining in the game. Iverson returned the favor, assisting Stern at the 18:35 mark. They would switch roles again as Iverson answered another tally from Entrot to keep McDaniel within striking distance.

Julia Jacobs netted her third goal of the night at the 6:10 mark to give McDaniel a 12-9 advantage. O'Brien found the net, unassisted, and Iverson finished a feed from first-year Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) to make it a one-goal game, with 4:32 remaining in regulation.

The Red Devils had a final chance in the final minute, but the shot went wide. It marked the first shot of the game that the Devils did not put on-goal or hit the pipe.

Entrot led McDaniel (8-5, 4-3) with four goals and three assists on the night. Kate Goldstein made seven saves.

Stern had another strong outing, scoring three goals and handing out three assists. Iverson finished with a hat-trick, adding an assist as well.

Moira Mahoney (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) controlled a game-high five draws while first-year Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) made eight saves and picked-up four ground balls in the nets for Dickinson.

The Red Devils slip to 8-6 overall and 3-3 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Swarthmore College on Saturday. Opening draw is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
