Strong Start Not Enough for Women's Lacrosse

Box Score

(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team had a strong start against #6-ranked Franklin & Marshall, but fell in the end, 20-10, on Saturday afternoon.

The Diplomats struck first but Dickinson answered on a free position by junior Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day), just 19 seconds later. The Red Devils took the lead as Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) fed Catie Ledwick (Weston, Conn./Weston) at the 23:50 mark.

The Diplomats tallied twice before O'Brien found the net again to knot the game, 3-3.

The rest of the half was all F&M as they went on a 6-0 run to pull in front 9-3, at halftime. They opened the second with three straight goals to stretch the lead to 12-3.

Siebold tallied another assist, finding sophomore Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) to trigger a 4-1 clip for the Red Devils. Ali Kelly answered for the Diplomats and Obrien netted her third of the game, with 20:35 on the clock.

Junior Kelly Haglund (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) converted a free position and Siebold found the net to cut the deficit to 13-7.

The Diplomats strung together three straight to remain in control, 16-7, with 12:52 remaining in the game.

O'Brien tallied her 34th goal of the season on a free position with 11:12 left to play. Sophomore Katie Iverson (Marblehead, Mass./Pingree School) made the score 16-9, scoring off an assist from Haglund.

Sophomore Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) put the Devils in double-digits, scoring off a feed from Sophie Waine (Wellesley, Mass./Greenwich) with 6:39 to play.

F&M tacked on three goals for the final of 20-10. The Diplomats improve to 14-4 overall and 8-1 in the Centennial Conference.

O'Brien finished with four goals on the afternoon while Seibold tallied a goal and two assists in her return to the line-up. Moira Mahoney (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) turned in another strong performance, controlling five draws, three ground balls, and causing a pair of turnovers.

Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) made six saves on the day while JoJo Auerbach (Chevy Chase, Md./Bullis School) came on to make three saves in 15 minutes of action.

The Red Devils slip to 9-8 overall and 4-5 in the conference. They need losses from both Muhlenberg and Haverford to keep any playoff hopes alive this season.
