(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's field hockey team, fresh off of receiving votes on the NFHCA national poll, turned in another strong performance on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Devils improved to 4-1 on the season, handing York College its first loss of 2014 with a 4-0 victory at Biddle Field.
The Red Devils capitalized on a penalty corner in the 16th minute as sophomore Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) ripped a blast into the cage, off an insert from first-year Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunterdon).
Junior Alyssa Stillwell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) put the Devils up, 3-0, scoring back-to-back goals to close out the first half. Sophomore Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) assisted both goals as Stillwell tallied her fourth and fifth goals of the season.
Junior midfielder Caroline Karwel (Fairfax Station, Va./South County Secondary) broke through the defense in the 64th minute to tack on the Devils' final goal of the day.
Davis anchored the defensive effort, along with strong play from Chloe Morakis (Potomac, Md./Wootton) to help keep the Spartans off the board. Davis came up big with a defensive save as well to keep the slate clean.
Junior Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) turned away three shots in the Red Devil cage to post the shutout.
Jessica Everett made 10 saves in goal for York College as they slip to 4-1.
The Red Devils are on the road this weekend, traveling to Bridgewater College for a 1:00 pm start on Saturday. They will stay there to face #20-ranked Lynchburg College on Sunday.
