(Reading, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team sandwiched a pair of goals around a strike from Alvernia University to top the Crusaders, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon.
In a game that started out in some unfavorable weather, the Red Devils were able to score a late goal as the sun tried to fight its way through the clouds, late in the afternoon.
Sophomore Danny Sheppard (Rydal, Pa./Abington) carried the ball into the 18 yard box and snuck a shot into the right corner of the net to put the Devils on the board in just the sixth minute of the match.
Alex Martyn evened the match in the 12th minute, scoring off a rebound from Cody Shirk.
The teams played even throughout the first half with Dickinson holding slim advantage in shots, 5-3. The Red Devils had more chances in the second half, holding a 7-1 edge over the final 45 minutes.
The Devils finally broke through to tally the game-winner, with just 14:30 remaining as George Naranjo (Miramar, Fla./American Heritage-Delray) found the back of the net, finishing off a rebound from first-year Macsen Pritchard (Tampa, Fla./Tampa).
Senior goaltender Reed Milbrath (Dickerson, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) made just one save to earn the win for the Red Devils. Zach Rider stopped five shots for Alvernia.
The Crusaders slip to 3-3 on the season. The Red Devils improve to 4-1 overall. Dickinson travels to #1-ranked Messiah College on Tuesday night. Opening kick-off is set for 7:00 pm.
