(Lynchburg, Va.) – The Dickinson field hockey team made the most of a weekend trip to Virginia, adding a 2-0 win over #20-ranked Lynchburg College on Sunday. The Red Devils won their sixth straight game, improving to 6-1 on the season.

The first half was an even battle all over the field. Each team produced some quality chances but both defenses held strong to keep the game scoreless. First-year Danielle Schwab (Highland, Md./River Hill) preserved the shutout with her second defensive save in the past two games.

The Red Devils capitalized on a penalty corner to strike first. Sophomore Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) scored on a blast off the insert from first-year Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunterdon), seven minutes into the second half.

The Red Devils added some insurance on another corner, eight minutes later as Caroline Karwel (Fairfax Station, Va./South County Secondary) found the back of the cage, off a rebound as Dickinson kept the pressure on in the offensive end.

The Devils continued to attack, forcing some strong goaltending from Lynchburg's Beka Hess. She finished with eight saves, making six in the second half. Kayla Krause added a defensive save for the Hornets as well.

Junior goaltender Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) turned away one shot in the second half to post her third solo shutout of the season.

The Red Devils return home to open Centennial Conference play next weekend. They host Haverford College on homecoming Saturday at 11:00 am.
