(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team started homecoming weekend with a big, 4-0 win over visiting Haverford College in Saturday's Centennial Conference opener.
The Red Devils were strong from the start and only improved as the game went on, in front of an excited crowd at Biddle Field. Dickinson capitalized early as sophomore Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) finished an assist from junior Alyssa Stillwell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca), just six minutes into the game.
The Devils erupted with a trio of goals in the second half. Perlmutter gained possession in transition and placed a shot in the upper right corner to put Dickinson up, 2-0, ironically six minutes into the second half.
Sophomore Maddie Groves (Acton, Mass./Lawrence Academy) tallied her first goal of the season, putting the Devils in front, 3-0, off an assist from first-year Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunderton) in the 46th minute.
Stillwell closed out the scoring with her team-high seventh goal, finding the back of cage on a beautiful cross from first-year Lilly Mott (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) with 19:42 remaining in the game.
The Red Devil defense turned in another solid performance in front of junior goaltender Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame). Fuss had a great performance of her own, turning away nine shots to record the shutout.
Lindsey Lopes made 10 saves in goal for Haverford before Abby Frerotte came on to make one stop.
The Red Devils improve to 7-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Tuesday, hosting Gettysburg College at 4:00 pm.
