Devils Topple Bullets 3-1 for Eighth Straight Win

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team struck early and went on to win its eighth straight game of the season, turning back Gettysburg College, 3-1, on Tuesday afternoon. The win marked the first against the Bullets in a decade as the Red Devils improve to 8-1 on the year and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference.

First-year Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunterdon) put Dickinson on the board in the eighth minute, blasting a rocket into the back of the cage.

The Red Devils struck again, just 6:33 later as sophomore Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) made a nifty move inside the circle to score another unassisted goal, putting Dickinson in front, 2-0, with 21 minutes remaining in the first half.

Coming out of halftime, the Devils wasted little time adding some insurance. First-year Emilie Arrix (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) picked up a rebound and poked the ball into the net, just 3:54 into the second half, stretching the lead to 3-0.

The Red Devils kept fresh legs on the field, keeping a significant amount of pressure on the Bullets, all over the field. Sophomore Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) controlled the defensive circle while junior Caroline Karwel (Fairfax Station, Va./South County Secondary) was dominant in the midfield.

Gettysburg finally broke through and put one on the board as Lindsay Kraus ripped a strong shot with 13:29 remaining in regulation.

The minor setback did not phase the Red Devils as they continued to dominate possession and force the Bullets into numerous turnovers while also forcing nine penalty corners. On the other end, strong play allowed just three corner attempts for the Bullets.

Junior Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) turned away two great back-to-back chances by the Bullets in a flurry in front of the cage. She finished with five saves on the afternoon as the defense allowed just six shots on goal.

Haley Mowery made two saves for Gettysburg (2-4, 0-2) as Dickinson doubled-up the Bullets in shots, 24-12.

The Red Devils (8-1, 2-0) are on the road this weekend, traveling to Swarthmore College on Saturday. The match is scheduled for a 12:00 pm start.
