Bracken Nets Natural Hat-Trick in 5-0 Victory

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team avenged a 1-0 loss from 2013 with a decisive 5-0 victory over visiting Ursinus College on Saturday afternoon.

First-year Will Bracken (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow) led the charge with a natural hat-trick, scoring the final three goals for the Red Devils.

Sophomore Danny Sheppard (Rydal, Pa./Abington) got things started, scoring twice in the first half. He put the Devils on the board in the ninth minute as first-year Chris Pollock (Salem, Va./North Cross) fed a beautiful lead pass, right up the center of the field for a 1-0 lead.

Sheppard found the net again in the 19th minute, scoring off an assist from junior Jonathan Harper (Westwood, Mass./Westwood).

Bracken stretched the lead to 3-0, finishing an assist from Drew Carneal (Woodbine, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) with just over 15 minutes to play in the first half. He added his second goal of the day, and his fourth of the season in the 80th minute with an assist from classmate Ryan Brown (Schnecksville, Pa./Moravian Academy).

Bracken stepped in to take the shot after a hand ball in the area led to a Dickinson penalty kick. He struck a hard shot past the keeper to complete the natural hat-trick with his fifth goal of the season.

The Bears created some dangerous scoring chances throughout the game, but the Red Devils were in control and in possession for the better part of the match.

Junior defender Ned Wagner (Washington, D.C./Upper Canada College) turned in another strong outing in the defensive third. He almost found the net as well, making a nice attacking run in the second half.

Senior Reed Milbrath (Dickerson, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) made a pair of saves to earn the shutout in goal for the Red Devils. Brian Gately finished with eight saves for the Bears as they slip to 3-5-1 overall and 0-2 in the Centennial Conference.

The Red Devils improve to 6-2-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Dickinson is home again on Wednesday night, hosting McDaniel College at 7:00 pm.
