(Frostburg, Md.) – The Dickinson field hockey team struck early and often, posting a 7-0 win at Frostburg State University on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) led the way, scoring twice in the opening five minutes.
Perlmutter put the Red Devils on the board, just 1:48 into the contest, finishing an assist from Ali Becker (Spring House, Pa./Germantown Academy). First-year Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunterdon) found Perlmutter for her second goal of the game at 4:41 mark.
Dickinson rattled the cage three more times in the opening half to take a 5-0 lead at the break. Dey tallied her first collegiate goal with 23 minutes remaining in the first half, with an assist from junior Taylor Meehan (Phoenixville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan).
First-year Alexis Bonser (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) broke into the scoring column with first collegiate tally in the 16th minute. Junior Alyssa Stillwell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) closed out the scoring in the first half, scoring off an assist from classmate Caroline Karwel (Fairfax Station, Va./South County Secondary) with just over eight minutes to play.
After the break, the Devils put another goal in the board in the early minutes. Stillwell dished out an assist to Meehan to stretch the lead to 6-0, 4:37 into the second half.
First-year Kiran Reed (Stow, Mass./Nashoba Regional) finished things off with another collegiate first as Meehan picked up her second assist of the game with 14 minutes remaining in the game.
Junior goaltender Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) turned away all five shots she faced to keep the Bobcats off the board. First-year Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) came on to make three saves in the final 21 minutes to preserve the shutout.
The Red Devil goaltenders received some help from sophomore Kendal Packo (Timonium, Md./Notre Dame Prep) as she came up with a defensive save as well.
The Red Devils held a solid, 25-12, advantage in shots while holding an edge in penalty corners, 8-6.
Jacqueline Gover and Nicole Leighty combined to make 10 saves in goal for Frostburg as the Bobcats slip to 1-1.
The Red Devils improve to 2-1 in the season. They travel to Susquehanna on Saturday to face the Crusaders at 1:00 pm.
