Red Devils Rally Past Susquehanna 4-3

(Selinsgrove, Pa.) – For the first time since 1996, the Dickinson field hockey team defeated Susquehanna University, erasing a 2-0 deficit en route to a 4-3 win, on the road.

 

The host Crusaders capitalized on a slow start by the Red Devils, scoring a pair of quick goals in the opening eight minutes of the game. Katherine Millett struck in the opening minute, netting an assist from Emily Novakovich. Millett returned the favor, assisting Novakovich with just 7:47 off the clock.

 

The Red Devils rallied to pull even at halftime, scoring twice in a span of just under three minutes. Junior Alyssa Stillwell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) put the Devils on the board with 6:51 remaining in the half.

 

First-year Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunterdon) found the back of the cage with 4:01 to play, finishing an assist from sophomore Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) to tie the game, 2-2, at the break.

 

Susquehanna struck quickly again as Millett gave the Crusaders a 3-2 lead, 8:40 into the second half.

 

It would be Stillwell that would answer once again, scoring off an assist from sophomore Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) to tie the game with 16:54 left to play.

 

Perlmutter tallied the game-winner in the 62nd minute, scoring unassisted to put Dickinson on top for good as the Red Devils improve to 3-1 on the season.

 

The Red Devils held a significant advantage in shots, 23-6, and forced 10 corners while allowing just two on the defensive end.

 

Stillwell led the charge with two goals while Perlmutter finished with a goal and an assist. Junior Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) made a pair of saves to earn the win. First-year Danielle Schwab (Highland, Md./River Hill) came on and played well in the midfield.

 

Alyssa Rothman made 10 saves in goal for Susquehanna as they fall to 1-3 on the season.

 

The Red Devils return home to face York College on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
