(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team slipped to 3-9 on the season, falling to visiting Ursinus College, 62-44, on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils had a strong start, pulling in front 7-4, on a Kelsey Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) three-pointer. The Bears rallied to take a 10-9 lead at the 14:01 mark before sophomore Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) knocked-down a three-pointer to put the Devils back on top.
Ursinus answered again, scoring nine straight, including seven from junior forward Jessica Porada for a 19-12 advantage. The teams traded baskets with the lead going back and forth between five and seven.
Hannah Kelly drained a three-pointer to stretch the margin to 30-22, with 23 seconds remaining in the half. First-year Myonie Williamson (Newtown Square, Pa./Radnor) closed out the half with a three-pointer of her own, making the score 30-25, at the break.
The trend continued to start the second half as the Red Devils kept the Bears within striking distance, matching field-goals over the opening four minutes. A Rachel Guy three-pointer gave the Bears a 42-31 lead, with 14:24 on the clock.
That triggered a 13-2 run that put Ursinus in front, 52-33, with 7:05 remaining in the game. Sophomore Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) came on strong for Dickinson, crashing the boards and scoring a pair of lay ups down the stretch. Williamson knocked-down another three-pointer and scored off a nice assist from Walsh to finish with eight points.
Martin led the Devils with a double-double, scoring 10 points to go with a game-high 16 rebounds, adding a pair of assists and a blocked shot. Sophomore Ellen Bair (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) added seven points while Mairead Donahue (Trumball, Conn./St. Joseph) pulled down six rebounds and Mackenzie Skerritt (Hightstown, N.J./The Peddie School) blocked four shots.
Porada led all scorers with 23 points and eight rebounds as the Bears improve to 3-8 overall and 3-3 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils slip to 3-9 overall and 1-7 in the conference. They travel to Baltimore on Wednesday to face Johns Hopkins University, tipping-off at 6:00 pm.
