(New York, N.Y.) – The Dickinson women's squash team split a double-header at New York University on Saturday. The #34-ranked Red Devils fell to #27-Connecticut College and swept #38 host NYU, 9-0.
First-year Stuart Lemay (Harwich Port, Mass./Westover) won the top flight in straight sets and senior Casey Merbler (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park) claimed the number two spot (11-2, 11-0, 11-0).
Meaghan Dashcund (South Hamilton, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy) overcame an 11-9 first set and won three close games to capture the third flight.
First-years Ashley Doyle (Readfield, Maine/Kents Hill School) and Meghan Shippe (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park) had strong showings in the six and seventh flights.
Patricia Francis-Hall (New York, N.Y./Pomfret School), Merrit Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) and Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) swept the middle flights in straight sets as well.
Against Connecticut College, Bancroft challenged in the sixth flight, claiming the third set before suffering a close (3-1) match. Betsy Vuchinich (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) won the first and third sets, but dropped her flight in a five-game marathon.
Shippe went four sets and Davis went (11-9, 11-9, 11-5) in another tightly contested match up.
The Red Devils (3-7) travel to Drexel University on Friday night for a 7:00 pm start.
