(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball captured a hard-fought match, sweeping visiting Bryn Mawr College in three sets on Saturday afternoon.
The Owls came out strong, taking a 4-1 lead in the opening set. The Red Devils regrouped to pull even at 6-6, and put together a 6-1 run to gain a 12-7 advantage. Bryn Mawr cut the margin to one before sophomore Erin Bongo (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) served an ace to give Dickinson an 18-14 lead.
The Devils tacked on three more points before the Owls rallied to make the score, 22-21. Dickinson closed out the set, claiming the next three for a 25-21 decision.
The second set had a similar start with Bryn Mawr jumping out to a 5-1 start. The set was tight the whole way with Dickinson gaining some separation at 21-17, forcing the Owls to take a timeout. Dickinson led 23-22 when they called timeout before holding on for a 28-26 win to lead the match, 2-0.
Kelly Quinn (Madison, N.J./Madison) came on and immediately served up an ace to put Dickinson on top, 6-5, in the third set. They stretched the margin to 10-6, forcing a Bryn Mawr timeout.
Senior Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) tallied an ace during a long severing clip, as the Devils took control, leading 21-11. Dickinson finished of the match with a 25-14 victory to complete the 3-0 sweep.
Bongo had a great afternoon, serving five aces to go with five kills and nine digs. Smith tacked on four aces, adding five kills and six digs. Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) led the attack with a match-high eight kills while sophomore middle Norma Jean Park (Basking Ridge, N.J/Ridge) recorded six kills and a pair of blocks.
Junior Arielle Misrok (Arsdley, N.Y./Ardsley) picked-up 17 digs and a pair of assists while first-year setter Hannah Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) dished out a match-high 24 assists, adding five digs. Quinn chipped in with six assists and five digs.
Rachel Ofili led Bryn Mawr with seven kills while Nolan Julien and Zoe Holman combined for 24 assists. The Owls slip to 6-11 overall and 1-4 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils improve to 7-12 overall and 1-4 in conference play. They are home again on Wednesday night, hosting Gettysburg College at 7:00 pm.
