Mules Slip Past Devils With 1-0 Win

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team suffered a tough 1-0 setback to visiting Muhlenberg College on Saturday afternoon at Biddle Field.

The match was dominated by strong play in the midfield from both teams as Muhlenberg held just an 8-5 shot advantage. The Devils held the edge in penalty corners, forcing eight while allowing seven on the day.

Senior Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) made a pair of saves in the first half to keep the score level at halftime with the Mules taking four shots and the Red Devils three.

Just over 10 minutes into the second half, Alyssa Scott found the back of the cage for what would prove to be the lone goal of the game.

The Red Devils kept the offensive pressure on throughout the remainder of the game, but could not net the equalizer.

Emma Rosenthal made one save for Muhlenberg in the second half. Fuss turned away another shot in the second half while sophomore Kim Monteferante (Putnum Valley, N.Y./Lakeland) came away with a defensive save.

The Mules claimed a key Centennial Conference win as they improve to 4-1 in the CC and 5-3 overall. The Red Devils slip to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Dickinson has another big match-up on Wednesday, hosting McDaniel College at 4:00 pm.
