(Haverford, Pa.) – The Red Devil women's squash team turned in a pair of dominant performances to blank Vassar and host Haverford, 9-0, on Saturday. First-year Hedvika Suchankova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/St. Michael's) allowed just nine points in the top flight against Haverford. She outlasted her opponent, 3-2, to keep the sweep alive.
Domenica Romo (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegia Atenas) went (11-1, 11-3, 11-6) to win the second flight against Haverford. She dropped her first set in the Vassar match, but rallied with three straight.
Junior Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) claimed a pair of wins in the eighth flight, fresh off a First-team All-Conference field hockey season. She went (11-1, 11-3, 11-4) in the opener (11-2, 11-4, 11-4) in the second.
The Red Devils improve to 3-2 overall. They will host Georgetown and NYU in the Dickinson Fall Round Robin next Saturday at the Kline Center.
The Dickinson men's squash team went 2-0 at Haverford on Saturday, avenging last year's loss to the 'Fords with an 8-1 victory and posting a 9-0 shutout win against Vassar College.
The Devils did not surrender a set through the first eight flights. First-year Hal Holappa (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) went (11-4, 11-2, 11-4) in the second flight and moved into the top flight in the Vassar match to claim a 3-1 win.
Cory Litman (Lower Marion, Pa./Lower Marion) survived a 12-10, second set, but rebounded to claim the match with an 11-1 third set. Sam Portelance (New Milford, Conn./Canterbury School) allowed just 10 points in each match, posting a pair of 3-0 victories.
Andrew Strudwick (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) had two strong outings, surrendering just eight points against Vassar and going (11-5, 11-3, 11-4) in the Haverford match.
Dickinson improves to 5-2 on the season. They will host Sienna, Swarthmore and NYU at the Dickinson Fall Invitational, next Saturday.
