(Lancaster, Pa.) – The #27-ranked Dickinson women's squash team dropped a heartbreaker to #18-ranked Bowdoin College on Sunday, falling 5-4 at Franklin & Marshall.
The Red Devils claimed the top two flights as first-years Hedvika Suchankova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/St. Michael's) and Domenica Romo (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Atenas) earned the points. Suchankova won the first two sets by identical scored of 11-5. She dropped an 11-8 decision but answered in the fourth to capture the match, 11-7.
Romo won in straight sets, but had to work for it, winning (11-9, 12-10, 11-9).
The Devils went at least four sets in three of matches they dropped on the day. Nicole Deluca (Newtown Square, Pa./Baldwin School) took a 2-1 lead before a strong finish from Alexa Horwitz rallied for the win.
Sophomore Stuart Lemay (Port Harwich, Mass./Westover) trailed 2-0 after dropping a marathon second set, 15-13. She extended the match, winning the third 11-8 before falling, 11-5, in the fourth.
Junior Patricia Francis-Hall (New York, N.Y./Pomfret School) evened her match with an 11-5 score in the second and put up a fight in the fourth, but dropped a hard fought match, 12-10.
First-year Sarah Clothier (Bryn Mawr, Pa./The Shipley School) won the eight flight in four sets while junior Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) overcame a 12-10 loss in the first set to win, 3-2. Sarah Murphy (Hamilton, Mass./Brooks School) played a long, tough exhibition match, but survived with a 3-2 decision.
The Red Devils slip to 4-3 on the season. They travel to Haverford College on December 5th to face Tufts University at 12:30 pm.
