(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team turned in an outstanding performance in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference playoffs, but suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 setback to top-seed and #4-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.
The match was scoreless the entire way before the Diplomats tallied a late goal to advance to the conference championship on Sunday.
The Red Devils kept the hosts in check, holding the Diplomats to just two shots and two corners in the first half. F&M would finish with a 15-0 shot advantage, but the Devils kept the game scoreless until there was just 4:11 remaining in the game.
The Red Devils weathered 10 corners in the second half as well while senior goaltender Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) finished with five saves on the afternoon.
The Diplomats finally broke through when Tamara Mills collected a deflection and put the ball in the back of the cage for the lone goal of the match.
The Diplomats improve to 16-2 on the season, advancing the conference final to face the winner of #2-seed Ursinus and #3-Haverford.
The Red Devils finish the season 12-7 overall. Dickinson matched the school mark for wins in a season, set in 2013 and have enjoyed three straight winning seasons, posting at least 11 wins in each of the past three years. The Devils broke the school record for assists in a season with 40 on the year.
