(Annville, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team opened the 2015 season with a 13-8 win at Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday.
The hosts struck first but the Red Devils countered with four straight goals from four different players. The Dutchwomen broke up the run but Dickinson answered with another three-goal run to stretch the lead to 7-2.
Sam Boyce scored a pair of goals off assists from Bailey Benz to cut the deficit to 7-4 at the break. The Red Devils came out strong to start the second half, putting together a 5-1 run in the opening 12 minute of the second half.
Junior Jen Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) struck first, scoring off an assist from Sydney Stern (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) at the 27:53 mark. Lebanon Valley scored just 27 seconds later before Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day School) tallied her second of the game.
Stern found Morrissey for the second time and her fourth goal of the afternoon. Sophomore Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) converted a pair of free position goals to extend the margin to 12-5, with 27 minutes remaining in the game.
LVC answered with a free position goal and Benz scored twice to close out the game with the final of 13-8. O'Brien tallied the final goal for the Red Devils at the 10:42 mark for the Devils' third hat-trick of the day.
Morrissey and Seibold led the way with four goals each while O'Brien tallied three goals and two assists. Junior Moira Mahoney (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) anchored a strong defensive effort with four caused turnovers and five ground balls. She controlled a game-high seven draws as well.
JoJo Auerbach (Chevy Chase, Md./Bullis School) and Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) split time in the nets, combining for seven saves.
Boyce led Lebanon Valley (0-3) with three goals while Benz finished with two goals and two assists.
The Red Devils (1-0) return for their home opener next Wednesday, hosting Messiah College at 4:00 pm.
