(Bryn Mawr, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team bounced back with a decisive, 17-1 win over Bryn Mawr, to open Centennial Conference play on Saturday.
The Red Devils jumped out to a 10-0 lead at halftime after Sydney Stern (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Chapel) scored off a Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) assist, just 33 seconds into the game. Stern returned the favor, feeding Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day School) for a 2-0 lead, with just 1:12 off the clock.
O'Brien scored again, 33 seconds later for a 3-0 start. Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) tallied an assist to Morrissey and found the net with a helper from Alison Carey (Weston, Conn./Laurelton Hall), for a 5-0 advantage, with 26 minutes to play in the half.
First-year Elizabeth Sitko (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) scored her first collegiate goal before Stern picked up assists to Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) and Talene Bush (Winchester, Mass./Winchester). Stern found the net again, as Megan McCulloh (Cockeysville, Md./Garrison Forest) handed out her third assist of the year.
First-year Katie Barton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Country Day) scored her first goal to close out the half with the Devils on top, 10-0.
The Red Devils ran the score to 15-0 before the Owls found the net at the 2:28 mark. Emily Bryne (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) opened the second half with a hat-trick around goals from Alexandra Gromacki (Forest Hills, Md./John Carroll) and McCulloh.
Barton answered Bryn Mawr's goals with a pair of tallies, just 31 seconds apart for the final of 17-1.
Stern led the attack with two goals and three assists. Byrne and Barton each had hat-tricks while O'Brien struck twice. Barton caused a pair of turnovers and picked up three ground balls. Siedbold went 1-1, and controlled three draws. Molli Hamierl (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) controlled three draws as well.
JoJo Auerbach (Chevy Chase, Md./Bullis School) and Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) each made one save in a half of action. The Devils held a 16-3 draw advantage while outshooting the hosts, 31-4.
